Using Websites is a great way to get students interested in learning. French, Hale, Johnson and Farr (1999, p. 25) state “When students use the World Wide Web for a learning environment, they suddenly have the world at their fingertips. People and resources from all over the world can be at a student’s computer at the click of a search engine. The learning opportunities are enormous.” When students create and use websites in the classroom, it can assist with higher order thinking and encourage learning by increasing a student’s interest levels.
Websites have become an exciting tool for students to use in the classroom while completing learning activities and Barron and Ivers (1998, p. 2) state “The Internet can provide students with new, exciting, and challenging resources. It opens doors to multicultural education; establishes real-world learning experiences; encourages higher-order thinking skills; helps to improve writing skills; and increases motivation, achievement, and positive behaviour.”

Doug, I have to agree with you that websites do encourage and increase interest in a learning experience.
ReplyDeleteI believe there are some constraints with using the world wide web within this environment but when planned for and carefully thought out by the learning manager these issues can be resolved to ensure seamless use of this ICT, and others, within a learning experience.
The challenge is now back to us, as future learning managers, to be skilled and informed enough to be able to harness this great educational tool that is at our fingertips.
